Zindel Segal, PhD, is Professor of Psychology at the University of Toronto, Scarborough. He is one of the originators of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and the author of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression and The Mindful Way through Depression. When Dr. Dimidjian was a graduate student at the University of Washington, she was intent on obtaining the best possible training in the clinical application of mindfulness. She sought out Zindel at an ABCT convention and asked him to supervise one of her local supervisors, Sandra Coffman, Ph.D., and herself in leading MBCT groups in the community. Much to her surprise, he agreed. Since that time, they have led MBCT in person training workshops together, collaborated on numerous papers, and co-developed with colleagues at NogginLabs, a web-based version of MBCT, called Mindful Mood Balance, which they are investigating as part of a new NIMH funded study, implemented in collaboration also with Dr. Beck.
